Abstract
Stoljetna nastojanja Osmanskog Carstva da osvoj europsko kopno odrazila su se na umjetničko stvaralaštvo te je nastala specifična protusomanska ikonografija. Takva se ikonografija može susresti i na hrvatskoj obali Jadrana. Njeni su početci suptilni, vidljivi u umjetnosti poliptiha na kojima su pojedini svetci, moguće, čašćeni kao zaštitnici od Osmanlija. Kasnije, često su prikazivani pape i vladari koji su bili članovi pojedinih svetih liga te se za njih smatralo da su posebno zaslužni za borbu protiv Osmanlija. Takva se ikonografija najčeće susreće na tema Gospe od Ružarija i Gospe od Karmela, posebno nakon bitke kod Lepanta. Negativna karakterizacija Osmanlija vidljiva je i na nekim uprizorenjima biblijskih priča i hagiografskih tema. Zanimljivi su i prikazi bitaka s Osmanlijama od kojih su neke imaginarne. Protuosmanska se ikonografija javlja i u umjetnosti ikona pa su neke ikone s prikazom Gospe čašćene kao zaštitnice od Osmanlija, a na nekim ikonama svetog Spiridona javlja se eksplicitna antiosmanska ikonografija.
Abstract (english)
Centuries-old Ottoman attempts to conquer Europe reflect themselves in the art of that area and have resulted in the creation of specific anti-Ottoman iconography, which can be found on Croatian coast, as well. One can find subtle beginnings of this kind of iconography in the art of polyptychs which depict saints that could have been revered as protection against Ottoman Turks. With time, popes and secular rulers were frequently depicted with the same purpose. Usually, the rulers shown in these depictions were considered especially meritorious in the fight against the Ottoman foe. Anti-Ottoman iconography is frequent in the themes of Our Lady of the Rosary and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, especially following the Battle of Lepanto. Negative characterization of Ottoman Turks is noticeable in depiction of biblical and hagiographic themes. In depictions of the battles with Ottoman forces as adversaries, some of depictions are based on real battles while some of them are imaginary. This type of iconography is also present in the art of the icons where some icons depicting Virgin Mary were also revered as protectors against Ottoman Turks. Some of the icons of Saint Spyridon are specific because one can find explicit version of anti-Ottoman iconography in them.
