Abstract
Katedrala u Dubrovniku arhitektonski je zanimljiva građevina zbog različitih povijesnih slojeva izgradnje. Svoje početke izgradnje vuče još iz bizantskog doba kada je to bila mala trobrodna bazilika. Ostatci građevine nisu u potpunosti sačuvani te se i dalje vrše istraživanja na bazilici. Romanička katedrala gradi se na temeljima bizantske bazilike. Međutim, romanička katedrala nije izdržala potres iz 1667. godine kada je u potpunosti razrušena. Na njenom mjestu gradi se nova velebna barokna katedrala koja se bitno razlikuje od prijašnjih jer pronalazi uzore u talijanskoj baroknoj umjetnosti. Osim velike važnosti za grad Dubrovnik, povijest razvoja barokne katedrale od 1671. do 1713. godine, dokaz je i razvijenosti Dubrovačke Republike.
Abstract (english)
The cathedral in Dubrovnik is an architecturally interesting building due to the different historical layers of construction. The beginnings of its construction are drawn from the Byzantine era when it was a small three-nave basilica. The remains of the building have not been completely preserved and the exploration of the basilica continues to this day. The Romanesque cathedral is built on the foundations of the Byzantine basilica. However, the Romanesque cathedral did not withstand the earthquake in 1667 when it was completely destroyed. In its place, a new magnificent baroque cathedral is being built, which is fundamentally different from the former ones because it finds its ideals in Italian baroque art. Apart from the great importance to the city of Dubrovnik, the history of the development of the Baroque cathedral from 1671 to 1713 is also a proof of the development of the Dubrovnik Republic.
