Marino Tartaglia’s artistic opus and detailed analyses of all of the epochs which he lived and created through are the object of numerous discussions. The aim of this paper is to examine the general theories about his artwork and unusual life through the analysis of his artworks and numerous accounts in which many art historians look back on his paintings or just the art of a certain period in general. The paper overall flows chronologically from the very beginning of his artistic career to his death. The introductory chapters outline the time in which Tartaglia's visual and artistic identity were born and shaped. Reviews of various art historians and critics have left their mark in the study of his art through three major epochs, as is demonstrated through a brief overview of this research in the paper. Gradually, their reflections and conclusions are presented, consciously following Tartaglia’s progression in both movement and thinking. Above all, they regard Marino Tartaglia as a highly important figure in the history of art in this area. The analyses of written sources were supplemented by material evidence of Tartaglia's paintings, from which it is possible to read what all the controversies were about. Understanding his work is a complex and layered undertaking that requires knowledge of both the cultural and the social context of that period. The questions that arise when discussing what has marked his life are of a local, economic, and political nature. In conclusion, it will be argued how and to what extent Tartaglia contributed to the arts and cultural community during and after his lifetime.
