This paper analyzes professional speakers' use of accents on Croatian national television. „News“ on HRT, RTL and Nova Tv were chosen for the analysis. The main purpose of this paper was to present the current picture of the Croatian language reality and to see to what extent Croatian national television, as a promotor of standard Croatian language, uses the norm of Croatian language. 131 minute of „News“ has been recorded and analysed, and all errors were grouped as follows: the apperance of falling accents at the non-beginning word syllables, the neutralization of short-falling and short-rising accent, nontransference of falling accents to proclitics, hypercorrectness, the loss of post-accentual lenght and the shortening of long accents. It has been concluded that most errors are made while pronouncing falling accents at the non-beginning word syllables, and the least while not transfering the falling accents to proclitics. Also, the norm of the use of accents in compound terms has been compared to those words in TV hosts' speech, and it has been proven that the common oscillations from standard use of accents in those words are also present in TV hosts' and journalists' speech. Besides that, some unusual features noted in professional speakers' speech were highlighted, which don't fall into any of the previously mentioned categories, but are still not the standard way. Ultimatly, it has been concluded that professional speakers on Croatian national television are inconsistent in promoting the orthoepic norm of Croatian language.
