Abstract
Questa tesina si sofferma sulla presenza del mito classico nel primo canto della Divina Commedia di Dante. L’obiettivo principale è di mostrare il modo in cui Dante arricchisce la sua opera attraverso il mito classico. Con l’ampio uso di personaggi della mitologia greca, romana e cristiana, l’Inferno è diventato un luogo pieno di personaggi personificati, motivi, simboli, creature mostruose, ognuno dei quali porta un significato più profondo e contribuisce a suo modo all'atmosfera generale di questo primo canto della Divina Commedia. Vengono analizzati in dettaglio un gran numero di personaggi mitologici che Dante incontra durante il suo viaggio infernale; chi sono, perché compaiono nel canto in cui compaiono, qual è il loro significato, il loro ruolo nel poema, come li trova, le loro caratteristiche esteriori che Dante riprende in parte dai miti originari ecc. Dante aggiunge anche ad alcuni personaggi qualcosa di nuovo che li rende caratteristici della sua opera. Dante non ha certamente attribuito invano certe caratteristiche a nessun personaggio, vale a dire ha prestato attenzione al fatto che ogni caratteristica racchiude un significato più profondo in cui si riflette un certo peccato e tutto ciò che fa alla povera anima del dannato.
Abstract (english)
This final work focuses on the presence of the classical myth in the first canto of Dante's Divine Comedy. The main objective is to show the way in which Dante enriches his work through the classical myth. With the extensive use of characters from Greek, Roman and Christian mythology, Inferno has become a place filled with personified characters, motifs, symbols, monstrous creatures, each of which carries a deeper meaning and contributes in its own way to the overall atmosphere of this first canto of the Divine Comedy. A large number of mythological characters that Dante meets during his hellish journey are analysed in detail, who they are, why they appear in the canto in which they appear, what is their meaning, their role in the poem, how Dante finds them, their external characteristics that Dante takes up in part from the original myths, while adding something new to some characters which makes them characteristic of his work. Dante certainly did not attribute certain characteristics to any character in vain, that is, he paid attention to the fact that each characteristic contains a deeper meaning in which a certain sin is reflected and everything it does to the poor soul of the damned.
