Abstract (english)
In this paper, the author tries to show just how much has the Ottoman expansion, and the immediate threat it brought influenced art on the eastern coast of the Adriatic sea. The Battle of Lepanto can be viewed as a turning point in the popularity of artwork depicting anti-Ottoman iconography, in large thanks to the state getting involved in the procurement of such items. Certain monastic oders, fraternitis and local nobles comissioned paintings depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary, certain saints, popes, kings and other nobles as an act of gratitude to the protagonists of the paintings for stopping the Ottoman advances. Also, most of these paintings were made by foreign artists. The most portrayed figure of the paintings was the Blessed Virgin Mary who was considered to be the most efficient protector against the Ottoman threat, and it was her to whom the people looked for help the most durings times of truble.
