Abstract
Rad se bavi temom hrvatskih vojnika u Prvome svjetskom ratu na Talijanskom bojištu s posebnim osvrtom na posljednje 3 vojne kampanje. U uvodu se postavljaju glavna istraživačka pitanja: Tko su istaknuti hrvatski vojnici i njihove postrojbe, kakva je bila njihova uloga na bojištu i što se s njima zbilo nakon Prvog Svjetskog rata? Nadalje, pojašnjava se povijesni kontekst Prvog svjetskog rata, uzrok i povod rata sa Kraljevinom Italijom i geografske značajke Talijanskog bojišta koje su odredile vojnu doktrinu austrougarskog Glavnog stožera. U središnjem dijelu se kronološki prikazuje tijek talijanskih i austrougarskih ofenziva unutar kojeg se može pratiti ratni put postrojbi austrijskog i hrvatskog domobranstva, kao i zajedničkih postrojbi u kojima su se borili hrvatski vojnici. Među njima su se istaknuli određeni pojedinci čija se sudbina prati kroz cijeli rad. U zaključnom dijelu se zaokružuje poslijeratna sudbina spomenutih protagonista i povezuje sa dugotrajnom marginalizacijom u povijesnoj znanosti i kolektivnom sjećanju, te se rad završava sa pregledom važnih i pozitivnih promjena u popularizaciji ove teme uoči i nakon obilježavanja stote obljetnice Prvog svjetskog rata.
Abstract (english)
This paper discusses the theme of notable Croatian soldiers and their roles in World War I on the Italian Battlefield, with special reference to the last three war campaigns. In the introduction, the main questions are the following: Who are the notable Croatian soldiers and their regiments? What was their role on the battlefield and what happened to them afterwards? Furthermore, the introduction provides historical context of World War I, explains the cause and the motive of the war with the Kingdom of Italy and the geographical features of the Italian Battlefield which determined military doctrine of the Austro-Hungarian Main Headquarters. The central part provides chronological course of Italian and Austro-Hungarian ofensives in which the warpath of the Austrian and the Croatian Home Guard can be followed, as well as the joint troops in which Croatian soldiers fought. Among them, certain individuals are singled out and their fate is followed throughout the paper. In the conclusion, post-war fate of the above-mentioned protagonists is rounded up and connected to the long term marginalization in historiography along with collective memory, and the paper ends with the outline of important and positive changes in popularization of the theme upon and after the marking of the centenary of World War I.
