Abstract
Vowels are described and compared according to the position of the tongue and the aperture of lips, whereas consonants are compared with each other according to place, manner of articulation and voicing. Syllable-timed rhythm unites Italian and Croatian whereas the stress-timed rhythm refers to English. For English and Italian, word order is, next to the intonation, an important medium to highlight the important parts of an utterance, whereas Croatian intonation is affected by its 4 Croatian accents.; in all three languages different intonation is used for different sentence types. English words are usually stressed on the first syllable; Italian words are mostly paroxytons, whereas Croatian word stress is affected by 7 cases.

Samoglasnici su opisani i uspoređeni prema poziciji jezika i otvoru usana, dok se suglasnike jedne s drugima uspoređuje prema mjestu, načinu izgovora i zvučnosti. Ritam koji je određen slogovima ujedinjuje talijanski i hrvatski jezik, dok se ritam koji je određen naglaskom odnosi na engleski jezik. Za engleski i talijanski jezik, red riječi je, odmah uz intonaciju, važno sredstvo naglašavanja važnih dijelove izričaja; sva tri jezika koriste različitu intonaciju za različite vrste rečenica. Riječi engleskog jezika su obično naglašene na prvom slogu, talijanske riječi su većinom naglašene na drugom slogu, dok na mjesto naglaska hrvatskih riječi utječe 7 padeža.
