Abstract
Mitološka bića srednjovjekovnih bestijarija na području istočne obale Jadrana često su usputno spomenuta pojava u znanstvenim istraživanjima, ili im se pak pažnja pridaje kada pomažu objasniti uočljivije dijelove spomenika ili umjetnine. Ovaj rad analizira njihovu prisuntost u četiri bitna središta srednjovjekovne Dalmacije, kako bi usmjerio pozornost na tu inače marginaliziranu temu koja nudi mnoštvo informacija o utjecajima, umjetničkim tendencijama, simbolici, izvorima inspiracije i kršćanskoj umjetničkoj doktrini općenito.
Abstract (english)
Mythological creatures of the eastern Adriatic coast found in the bestiaries of the Middle Ages are often a footnote in works of scientific research, or rather, attention is given to them only when they can help explain more prominent parts of a monument or artwork. This paper analyses their appearance in four major Dalmatian hubs of the Middle Ages in order to direct attention on such a commonly marginalized topic, one that offers a plethora of information about the influences, artistic tendencies, symbolism, sources of inspiration, and doctrine of western Christian art in general.
