Abstract
This paper will connect Sylvia Plath with victimhood in terms of certain biographical elements and her poetry. This will further be explained with two main sources Fatima Naqvi’s book The Literary and Cultural Rhetoric of Victimhood and article “Dignity and Victimhood” by Kent Greenawalt. The main thesis is that the victimizing agency is presented in Plath herself. Her individuality is present in all elements and becomes a hypnotizing tool. She becomes a victim of her own feelings and emotions that drive her poetry. Biographical elements are based on quotes from Plath and biographical books, and poems analyzed are “Daddy,” “The Jailer,” and “Mushrooms”.
Abstract (croatian)
Ovaj rad će povezati Sylviu Plath sa stanjem žrtve u kontekstu određenih biografskih elemenata i njezine poezije. Ovo će biti dalje objašnjeno s dva glavna izvora, knjiga Fatime Naqvi “Literary and Cultural Rhetoric of Victimhood” i članak “Dignity and Victimhood” Kenta Greenawalta. Glavna teza je da je izvor tog stanja žrtve prikazan u samoj Plath. Njezina individualnost je prisutna u svim elementima i postaje hipnotizirajuće sredstvo. Postaje žrtva vlastitih osjećaja i emocija koje vode njenu poeziju. Biografski elementi temelje se na citatima Sylvie Plath i biografskim knjigama, a analizirane su pjesme "Daddy", "The Jailer", "Mushrooms".
