Abstract
Split je grad duge i bogate prošlosti, a početkom 19. stoljeća, nakon četiri stoljeća pod mletačkom upravom, dolazi do brojnih reformi koje su unaprijedile grad, pa se mijenja izgled grada, struktura stanovništva i životne navike građana. Početkom stoljeća te promjene su bile manje, ali s vremenom su se intenzivirale. Za vrijeme kratkotrajne francuske vladavine, 1806. – 1813., Francuzi su proveli temeljite društvene reforme, a najzaslužniji za to bili su VicenzoDandolo i maršal Marmont. Auguste Marmont bio je vojni zapovjednik Dalmacije, ali najviše je u svom djelovanju napravio za Split, grad koji je posebno isticao i kojeg je želio posebno unaprijediti i uljepšati. U Splitu je proveo brojne reforme, pregradnje i izgradnje. Grad je dobio novi izgled, a da je njegova vlast potrajala dužemožda bi ga i više poljepšao, dok su ovako neke od njegovih zamisli ostale tek idejama ili su bile vodič kasnijim vlastima za izgradnju grada.
Abstract (english)
Split is a city with a long and rich past, at the beginning of the 19th century, after four centuries under Venetian rule, numerous reforms occurred that advanced the city, thus changing the appearance of the city, the population structure and the habits of citizens. At the beginning of the century, these changes were minor, but intensified over time. During the short French rule, 1806-1813, the French carried out thorough social reforms, the most deserving of which were VicenzoDandolo and Marshal Marmont. Auguste Marmont was the military commander of Dalmatia, but most of all in his work he made for Split, a city he especially emphasized and which he wanted to especially improve and beautify. He has carried out numerous reforms, reconstructions and construction works in Split. The city got a new look, if it had lasted longer it might have made it even better, but some of his ideas were just ideas or a guide to later authorities for building the city.
