Video games and gaming have become more and more recent topics in sociological research, unlike before, when they were not given more importance but were viewed as a form of leisure and waste of time. A problem with the research is the non-unified form of professional terminology within the video game domain, so different authors use different words for the same terms. Most of the research was based solely on video games, and in order to have a good run on the subject, other disciplines need to be incorporated to dispel gaming myths and stereotypes. In the last decade, we have witnessed a widespread movement toward declaring game studies to be our own sovereign area of study or discipline. The study of games, of course, has a much longer history and is embedded in the theories and practices of all areas of academic research. In the process of joining forces around a common subject of study, it is important to clarify the different theoretical and methodological foundations A survey in the Republic of Croatia showed that gamers are mostly men between the ages of 18 and 25. They mostly play FPSs, averaging one to four hours a day, and at least MOBAs and MMORPGs. The game mechanics and story within the game are their most important aspects of video games. They rarely neglect commitments like business, school / college, sports and cultural. Most of them do not consume alcohol while playing and tend to play solo. By testing the hypotheses, we came to the conclusion that there were no statistically significant differences in experiences and preferences between male and female participants. The results would probably be different if the survey were approached by an equal number of men and women.
