When each human being is born, music becomes an essential part of his life. Music can have an important impact on every individual so it is important to choose what kind of music we will listen. The characteristics of pre – classical and classical music, which have left an indelible mark in the history of music and also in teaching Music as a school subject, have been described in this paper. The aim of this paper was to explore in which amount were the compositions from the pre – classical and classical period represented on the CD-s that accompanied books that students used in the Music classes in the first three grades of primary school. The characteristics of the classical period and also the reasons why it is important to actively listen to music in Music classes, have been listed before analysing the results that were gathered by research. By actively listening to numerous musical compositions, students will comprehend the value of music and develop their own particular taste for music. The analysis has shown that the compositions from the classical period have mostly been present on the CD-s used in the third grade. It was also recorded that the compositions from the pre-classical and classical period were not present in a sufficient amount and that the compositions from the romantic period and compositions from the twentieth century were mostly present on the CD-s.
