The period from 1600 to 1750 is known in history of music as the Baroque period. From the word baroque it is clear that this period likes splendour, brilliance and flamboyance. In the Baroque period, a lot of science and art academies were established to develop better education and knowledge and some of the famous scientists who worked in that period were Galileo, Kepler and Copernicus. Men often turned against the nature and in her beauty they built great buildings that were an obvious display of the Baroque period with its geometrical and mathematical drafts but also shapes that looked unnatural and flamboyant. In addition to buildings, we can observe the characteristics of the Baroque period in the forms of address, manners of speaking, wigs, on scene in theatres and in court ceremonies. Opera became the main representative of the Baroque period. It became a display of power and splendour of the feudal society although opera can in later periods be observed outside the walls of feudal society. In this graduate thesis, the development of the baroque music is described, the most important representatives of baroque music are mentioned, and also the Baroque period in Croatia is examined. Also there are descriptions of the process of listening to music in Music classes, the competences that teachers should have in order to teach music to students and esthetical education of students in Music classes. In the research part of the thesis, there is an analysis of the CD-s that accompany books used by students in the first three grades of primary school. Analysis has been conducted on the books published by Alfa, Profil andŠkolskaknjiga. The results indicate that compositions from the Baroque period haven`t been used in a large amount on the CD-s that accompany the books used in Music classes. Nevertheless, on each CD there is at least one or even more baroque compositions which is important because the students can learn something about baroque music.
