Within the classroom, relationships between students and teachers develop and represent the context of each student’s social and emotional development. This context is described by the classroom climate, and it conditions how the student feels during his stay in school, what emotions he encounters and how they affect his success, relationships with others, and his well-being in general. Understanding, expressing, and regulating emotions are the foundations of emotional intelligence, which denotes a new perspective on the diversity of human intelligence. Individuals with developed emotional abilities are considered to be more successful in interpersonal relationships, they are prosocial and able to cope with everyday problems. The emotions that students encounter in relationships with parents, peers, and teachers, and how they regulate them, affect their development of emotional abilities. Emotional abilities are inseparable from social ones because they affect a person’s relationships with others the individual’s social functioning. Relationships with peers within the classroom are the foundation of the development of socio-emotional abilities. What is more, the teacher's approach to students and the way he connects with them is crucial as well. The classroom climate thus represents a context in which students can learn about socioemotional skills and use them afterward. This fact highlights the importance of providing a positive and stimulating atmosphere within each classroom. Relationships with other students that create a classroom atmosphere can affect the development of empathy and the ability to understand other people’s needs and feelings and these are the foundation of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence encompasses social skills that are learned through relationships with other people in the immediate environment and it is obligatory to emphasize the importance of trust, support, and compassion between teachers and students within the classroom since these elements enable emotional development.
