Abstract
Alojzije Stepinac svoje je djelovanje započeo još u Kraljevini Jugoslaviji, a nastavio kasnije i u NDH, te konačno u Titovoj Jugoslaviji. Vršio je svoju službu i išao prema ostvarenju svojih ciljeva za dobrobit Katoličke Crkve. Nikako nije htio dopustiti odvojenost Katoličke Crkve od Vatikana i pape, što je Tito želio postići, a u čemu je nadbiskup i vidio razloge tako loših crkveno-državnih odnosa. Država je u Katoličkoj Crkvi vidjela protivnika i željela je spriječiti sva njena djelovanja, a nadbiskupa Stepinca, kao njenog predstavnika, poslati izvan države. Imenovanje nadbiskupa Stepinca za kardinala, posebno je pogodilo državnu vlast, nakon čega je uslijedio prekid diplomatskih odnosa sa Svetom Stolicom. Nakon smrti kardinala Stepinca, došlo je do nešto boljih odnosa između Katoličke Crkve tj. Svete Stolice i države.
