Abstract
Mediteranska prehrana smatra se optimalnom vrstom prehrane za fizičko i psihičko zdravlje ljudi diljem svijeta. Mnogobrojna istraživanja naglašavaju dobrobiti za srce, mozak i mentalno blagostanje pojedinca od najranije dobi. Upravo je zbog toga cilj ovog istraživanja proučiti povezanost zdravih prehrambenih obrazaca i akademske izvedbe studenata kao još jedan značajan aspekt ljudskog funkcioniranja. Kvantitativno istraživanje u ovom se radu provelo putem anonimnog anketnog upitnika dodijeljenog studentima Filozofskog i Medicinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Splitu. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 179 sudionika, od čega su njih 160 činile žene. Prosječna dob sudionika bila je 22 godine. Među sudionicima, njih 65 činili su studenti preddiplomskog studija, dok je studenata diplomskog studija bilo 114. Anketni upitnik sastojao se od Upitnika za pridržavanje mediteranske prehrane (MEDAS), Skale akademskog funkcioniranja konstruirane od strane istraživačice i pitanja otvorenog tipa o čimbenicima akademskog funkcioniranja. Rezultati su pokazali kako se u periodu od mjesec dana većina sudionika nije pridržavala smjernica mediteranske prehrane. Međutim, veće pridržavanje bilo je povezano s većim razinama motivacije i koncentracije u akademskom kontekstu. Učestalost konzumiranja mediteranske prehrane nije bila povezana s prosjekom ocjena i svakodnevnim raspoloženjima. Može se zaključiti kako je mediteranska prehrana u određenoj mjeri povezana s nekim aspektima akademskog funkcioniranja, pri čemu je potrebno dodatno istražiti i utjecaj ostalih čimbenika.
Abstract (english)
Mediterranean diet is considered the optimal type of diet for promoting physical and mental health in people all around the world. Various studies highlight its positive effect on heart, brain and mental well-being from the earliest age. The aim of this study is therefore to explore the relationship between healthy diet patterns and students’ academic performance as an additional significant aspect of human functioning. The quantitative research in this work was carried out by distributing anonymous questionnaires to the students of The faculty of humanities and social sciences and The faculty of medicine at the University of Split. There were 179 participants, 160 of them being women. The mean age was 22. Among participants, there were 65 undergraduate and 114 graduate students. The questionnaire consisted of the Mediterranean diet adherence score (MEDAS), the Academic functioning scale constructed by the researcher and an open-ended question about the factors influencing students’ academic functioning. The results show that most of the participants did not adhere to the mediterranean diet during the period of one month. However, better adherence was associated with higher levels of motivation and concentration in academic context. The frequency of consumption showed no link to the GPA and everyday moods. We can conclude that Mediterranean diet is related to some of the aspects of academic functioning, but only to some extent. Therefore, it is necessary to observe the influence of other factors as well.
