Abstract
Svi jezici se mijenjaju kroz vrijeme. Ne postoji jezik koji se nije promijenio. Engleski jezik je uveliko drugačiji ako ga usporedimo sa staro-engleskim. Postoje dvije vrste promjena: unutarnje i vanjske. Promjena kvalitete samoglasnika najveća je vanjska promjena u engleskom jeziku, dok je analogijska promjena najveća unutarnja. Uloga govornika također ne smije biti zanemarena. Promjene u jeziku nastaju spontano. Govorniku nije u cilju izazvati promjene u jeziku. Najčešći tip promjene koji se zapaža je onaj koji ima utjecaj na leksik jezika. Novo riječi koje ulaze u jezik nazivaju se novotvorenice.
Abstract (english)
All languages change all the time. There is no such thing as a language which is not changing. English has changed a lot when compared to Old English. Language change is largely regular. There are two types of language change: internal and external. The Great Vowel Shift is the biggest external change in English, while analogy is the internal. Language change is often compared to the evolutionary model in biology. Role of the speaker in language change cannot be ignored. Speakers produce language change unintentionally, it is not something they have in mind while speaking. First type of language change usually noticed is the one that affects the lexicon. New words that enter a language are called neologisms.
