The aim of this research was to examine the relationship between parenting styles and some characteristics of self concept in early adolescent in age of 12 -14 years. The research was conducted on a total of 218 pupils, 108 of which were male and 110 female. General data questionnaire was used to gather data on age, gender, size and structure od familiy. Apart from the aforementioned basic information, there were also used: „KOBI“ – Scale of Interaction Quality within the Family (Vulić-Prtorić, 2004), Self-Esteem Scale for Children (Valjak, 2004) and Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children (Vulić Prtorić i Sorić, 2006). These instruments were used to measure satisfaction of families, the quality of interaction with mother and father in two dimensions – acceptance and rejection, children's general self-esteem and children's sense of self-efficacy in social, academic and emotional area. The research has shown that there is no significant main effect of adolescent gender on the quality of interactions with mother and father, but has also established the significant difference between the acceptance of a mother and of a father. The girls, compared to boys, show higher estimation of the accepting of a mother, while boys, compared to girls, show higher estimation of the accepting of a father. The given results are also showing positive correlation between parental acceptance and self-esteem, as well as the negative correlation between parental rejection and self-esteem. Finally, the research results have shown that the good relationship between parents and adolescents is associated with greater self-efficacy. It can be assumed that the parental interest in the child's success in school and parental monitoring that takes into account the child's autonomy favors its greater self-efficacy and performance in school
