Abstract
Ovaj rad prikazuje načine kojima se u širem jezičnom smislu može pristupiti fenomenu humora, s naglaskom na verbalni humor stand-up komedije. Tri ključne teorije humora daju različite odgovore na pitanje zašto je nešto smiješno, a teorija nepodudarnosti, iz koje proizlaze sve moderne kognitivne teorije humora (SSTH i GTVH), pokazuje se kao jedina lingvistički adekvatna. MeĎutim, bilo kakvo jednostrano proučavanje humora zanemaruje kompleksnu narav humora pa se zbog toga iz jezične analize ne mogu izuzeti društvena i psihološka teorija humora. Polazeći od pretpostavke da verbalni humor posjeduje vlastite (jezične) zakonitosti, u radu su prikazane opće jezične strategije humora kao i one koje su tipične za stand-up komediju kao specifičan diskurs. Nakon općih naznaka o tehnikama humora, analize odabranih dijelova diskursa dvojice istraknutih komičara, Georga Carlina i Eddieja Izzarda, pokazuju u kolikoj mjeri kvalitetan stand-up komičar mora pozavati jezik humora, pri čemu se kao glavni kriterij uspješne izvedbe uzima smijeh publike.
