Parallel abstract (English) | George Gordon Byron became famous for his notorious reputation, expressed in his most successful work, Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, which is also a great contribution to the literature of Romanticism. He introduced a new literary type, so-called Byronic poem, which had an impact on Croatian literature in works of the most prominent writers of Croatian National Revival, Ivan Maţuranić and Dimitrije Demeter. Grobničko polje is frequently called the first Croatian version of Byronic poem, but the similarities between Maţuranić’s Smrt Smail-age Čengića and Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage are indisputable, as well. Traces of the demonic hero in Smail-aga and Batu-kan, the romantic nature and combination of epic, lyric and elements of drama are just some of them. Maţuranić’s and Demeter’s work present the elements of Croatian literary tradition, primarily the one of Gundulić. In that representative pieces of Croatian Romanticism, connecting the tradition with romantic tendencies, served for establishing the original aesthetics and as a projection of Illyrian ideology. |
