Abstract
Da bi se značenje pojedinog književnog djela pobliže odredilo, treba uspostaviti njegov odnos s drugim djelima kao i njihovim autorima. U ovom radu pisalo se o utjecaju Egara Allana Poea na djelo i lik Antuna Gustava Matoša. Od dodirnih točaka istaknuli su se: motiv gotske arhitekture koja ima važnu ulogu u dočaravanju atmosfere te je često uklopljena u pjezaž. Zatim motiv žene koji se podjednako vezuje uz teme ljubavi i smrti, a sama smrt lijepe žene postala je jedno od glavnih estetskih obilježja ta dva pisca. Dvojništvo je motiv koji obilježava čovjekove unutarnje sukobe i njihovu rastrganost između racionalnog i iracionalnog. Oba pisca njeguju smrt kao dominantnu temu koja se najčešće pojavljuje uz motive ludila, pijanstva i bizarnih okolnosti. Cijela tematika povezana je nokturalnim i tjeskobnim atmosferama koje imaju veliku ulogu u razvijanju duševnih stanja likova. Odjek Poea izrazito je vidljiv u Matoševom književnom opusu pa su neki dijelovi i doslovno preslikani, no sve to Matoš obrađuje na izrazito originalan način ostavljajući u tekstu vlastiti literarni pečat.
Abstract (english)
If the meaning of a particular literary work is to be closely determined, then its relations towards other works, as well as authors, have to be established. In this paper, I wrote about the influence of Edgar Allan Poe's work on Antun Gustav Matoš. Some of the themes and motifs they have in common include: Gothic architecture that is important for creating atmosphere and is often a part of the surrounding landscape. Female characters that are usually linked with the themes of love and death, while death of a beautiful woman is one of the main aesthetic characteristics of these two authors. The motif of the double that is used to characterize internal human conflicts and their inner battle between the rational and irrational. Both of the authors cultivate death as a dominant theme that mostly occurs with the motifs of insanity, drunkenness and bizarre circumstances. All of the themes are associated with nocturnal and anxious atmospheres which are cruicial for developing the mental states of the characters. In conclusion, Poe's impact on Matoš's work is evident. Although he even impersonated some of Poe' texts, they are all highly originally processed and are a signature part of his literary work.
