The paper presents the results of empirical research on the views of students of University of Split. Within the theoretical part, various aspects of position science has in Croatia, with an emphasis on the social marginalization of science, are presented. The paper presents how it came to the situation in which Croatian science politics becomes ineffective. Sociological portrait of students in Croatia is also presented in the paper as well as the model of funding higher education. It all leads to conclusion on how many and which young people decide to study science and choose science occupations. In order to detect what students of Split think about it, results of the empirical research were obtained from 180 students of the University of Split. The results show that students have certain interest towards science and most of them read scientific contents, watch science shows and attends public science lectures. However, most of the students think that science in Croatia is neglected due to deficient financing of science and scientists themselves. Moreover, students mostly believe that there is no adequate system of employment of the scientists in Croatia. Most students also think that science should be more popularized in media in order to improve, the position of science in society because, as most students recognize, Croatia is struggling with problems of particular exodus of scientists.
