Saint John, Benedictine monk of Saint Peter's monastery in Osor, and later a bishop of Trogir from 11st century, is one of the key figures of medieval Trogir. The period of his serving to the Trogir diocese marks the reformary work in the church and public life of the town and entire Dalmatia. One of his greatest merits is the foundation of the female Benedictine monastery of Saint Nicholas in Trogir in 1064. Due to the many wonders he did during his life and after his death in 1111, the process of proclaiming him a saint was initiated. The evolution of his cult culminates in 1681, when his bones were carried in an unforgettable ceremony and procesion to the renaissance chapel of master Nikola Firentinac and Andrija Aleši. This paper analyzes paintings representating the saint from the baroque period in the 17th and 18th century in the town of Trogir. His paintings are found in churches, in the museum of the city of Trogir and in private collections. His patronage of the city was reflected in the art of the time, so he was often showed him blessing the town and the nearby island of Čiovo. To art historians, such representations are interesting because of the view of the fortified Trogir. Other representations of St. John reflects a rich renaissance heritage. These are the traditional portraits of the saint with the Virgin Mary and the Child, the titulars of the churches of Trogir and the patrons of the individual orderers. The smallest number of paintings shows scenes from the bishop's life. In baroque period, only two such displays were ordered for the cathedral of Saint Lawrence.
