Abstract
Ovaj diplomski rad ima kao svoj glavni cilj istraživanje percepcija studenata u odnosu na njihove izvorne i neizvorne nastavnike engleskog jezika. Bit je istražiti razlike između ta dva tipa nastavnika putem percepcija studenata. Također, svi rezultati do kojih se došlo mogu poslužiti ne samo onima koji uče engleski jezik, već i onima koji žele usvojiti bilo koji jezik, kao i nastavnicima koji predaju jezike. Rezultati ovog istraživanja ukazala su na to da su studenti kojima je predavao neizvorni govornik cijenili njenu posvećenost koja je rezultirala njihovom angažmanu i učenju nove pravne terminologije relevantne za njihove studije. Također, primijetili su da je bilo iznimno korisno imati mogućnost komunikacije s nastavnicom na hrvatskom jeziku kako bi u potpunosti razumjeli značenje pravne terminologije. S druge strane, studentima kojima je predavao izvorni govornik je bilo ugodno imati nastavnika koji je bio opušten i kojemu su mogli vjerovati kada su u pitanju bili termini koje su obrađivali. Nadalje, ista grupa studenata je naglasila konstantnu komunikaciju tijekom predavanja te kako je ta činjenica pomogla da budu pozorniji i angažiraniji. Bez obzira na povremene poteškoće i zbunjenost vezanih uz terminologiju, moglo bi se zaključiti da su obje grupe imale koristi od pohađanja navedenih predavanja.
Abstract (english)
This master’s thesis has as its main objective the study of students’ perceptions related to native English-speaking teachers (NESTs) and non-native English-speaking teachers (non-NESTs). The main point was to demonstrate the differences between the two types of teachers from the students’ point of view. Also, all of the results could be useful not only for those who study English language, but also for those who wish to acquire any language, as well as for language teachers. The results of this research indicated that the students who had a non-NEST as their teacher appreciated her devotion which resulted in their engagement and acquisition of new law terminology relevant for their studies. They also noted that it was highly beneficial to have the opportunity to communicate with their teacher in Croatian in order to understand completely legal terminology. On the other hand, the students who had a NEST as their teacher found it pleasant to have a teacher who was relaxed and whom they could trust when it comes to terminology they were studying. Furthermore, the same group pointed out the constant communication during the classes, and how this fact made them more attentive and engaged. No matter the occasional struggle and confusion with terminology, it could be concluded that both groups had benefits of attending the classes in question.
