Abstract
Ksaver Šandor Gjalski hrvatski je pisac romana i novela društvene, povijesne i psihološke tematike s mističnim motivima. Književnu je ostavštinu stvarao na prijelazu 19. i 20. st., pa djela imaju obilježja romantizma, realizma i moderne. Nakon konciznog pregleda autorovih djela, u ovom radu daje se sadržaj uokvirenih novela zbirke Pod starim krovovima uz opće im značajke – kompozicijsku shemu, stilske karakteristike, autorove inspiracije te jezik likova. Razrada se zatim temelji na vezama sa slikarstvom, feudalnim običajima i vjerovanjima te trima psihološkim karakterizacijama likova. Prikazani su uzroci i posljedice propadanja vlastele, kao i njihovo ponašanje i govor. Također, stavljen je naglasak na svevremenskoj vrijednosti ovog djela koje na realističkim temeljima gradi most prema modernizmu.
Abstract (english)
Ksaver Šandor Gjalski is Croatian novel and short story author of social, historical and psychological themes with mystical motives. He created his literary inheritance during 19th and 20th century transition, so works have Romanticism, Realism and Modern features. After concise review of author's writings, in this work content of framed short stories Pod starim krovovima with their general features – compositional scheme, style characteristics, author's inspirations and characters' language is given. Elaboration is based on painting relations, feudal customs and beliefs and three characters' psychological characterizations. Causes and repercussions of the destruction of the aristocracy are shown, as well as their behaviour and speech. Also, an emphasis has been put on timeless value of this writing which builds a bridge towards Modern and its' Realism basis.
