In this paper we have depicted the development of bioethics from its inception in the Belmont Report, a paper that was a result of the work made by a commission formed by the U.S. Congress. This report initiated a debate on bioethical principles. Beauchamp and Childress were one of the first people to feel that the principles of the Belmont report should be supplemented. Their conclusions resulted in the creation of four basic principles, better known as the Georgetown mantra. Their principles of autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence and justice became the foundation of ethics in U.S. healthcare. In 1998. the European Commission formed a comity tasked with finding principles of bioethics which would be in accordance with European tradition. That commission found four basic principles: autonomy, dignity, integrity, vulnerability. Parallel to these movements, a group within the feminist movement sought to revaluate value systems in society and with them the perception of moral. They opposed traditional understandings of moral with care, which they perceived as a foundation of society. Also, they demanded for this to be reflected in healthcare.
