Abstract
Benito Mussolini i njegov fašistički pokret je osvojio vlast u kompleksnoj političkoj situaciji prvenstveno zahvaljujući tome što se predstavio kao jedina osoba koja može Italiju obraniti od potencijalne komunističke revolucije, te je tako pridobio simpatije monarhističkih i crkvenih krugova, dok je kritizirajući ostatke korumpiranog trasformisma i igrajući na kartu nacionalnog ponosa i zajedništva pridobio glasove naroda. Mussolini je imao nos za politiku te je znalački držao balans između različitih struja, kako u vlastitoj stranci i državi, tako i u vanjskoj politici što ga je činilo veoma popularnim državnikom u svijetu te su mnogi htjeli biti njegov saveznik. Očaran Njemačkom vojnom mašinerijom počinio je kardinalnu grešku kada se u klasičnoj talijanskoj dvojbi između Njemačke i zapadnih saveznika svrstao uz Njemačku i nacistički režim što je uz nekoliko veoma loših ratnih odluka naposljetku dovelo do konačnog pada fašizma.
Abstract (english)
Benito Mussolini and his fascist movement gained power in a complex political situation, primarily because he presented himself as the only person who could defend Italy from the potential communist revolution and thus gained sympathies of monarchist and ecclesiastical circles while criticizing the remains of a corrupt trasformismo and playing on a card of national pride and unity gained the voices of people. Mussolini had a nose for politics, and he knew how to hold the balance between the different fractions, both in his own party and in the country, as well as in the foreign politics which made him a very popular statesman in the world and many wanted to be his ally. Mussolini was impressed by great German military power and thus committed a cardinal mistake when in the classical Italian doubt between Germany and the Western allies he chose Germany and the Nazi regime, which with some very bad war decisions ultimately led to the final fall of fascism.
