In the first three grades of primary school music teaching program is based on the areas of singing, playing, listening to the music and musical creativity. In the area of listening to the music there are also musical stories. Musical stories are a mixture of music and story narrated by a storyteller. Although the musical stories are not adequate material for listening in the primary school, because of the domination of the story while the music is in second plan, exceptions are two musical stories; Instrument Wizard by Branimir Sakač and Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev. Through those musical stories pupils become acquainted with the symphony orchestra instruments. Listening to the musical stories is realized through the methodical process of active listening. It’s about listening that implies getting tasks that are related exclusively to the musical expressive elements of the listening piece; performing ensemble, tempo, dynamics, and atmosphere. Musical story is played for several times so that the pupils could successfully solve all the listed tasks. This paper presents the conception of music education in the first three grades of primary school with emphasis on music listening. After description of listed musical stories, follows detailed lesson plans of processing musical stories in music teaching.
