Abstract
Ovaj rad bavi se životom i djelovanjem Ksavera Šandora Gjalskog. U radu je predstavljen njegov ponajbolji roman „U noći“ koji se bavi društvenim i političkim životom Hrvatske u drugoj polovici 19. stoljeća, posebice 70-ih i 80-ih godina u vrijeme banovanja Ivana Mažuranića i prvih godina vladavine Khuena Hedervary. Pokazati ćemo kako je Gjalski u ovom radu vjerno opisao odnose najmoćnijih stranki toga doba (narodnjaka i pravaša) te kako se pokazao kao vjerodostojan kroničar jednog razdoblja hrvatske povijesti.
Abstract (english)
This paper deals with the life and work of Ksavera Šandor Gjalskog and presents the best novel "In The Night". This novel deals with the social and political life of Croatia in the second half of the 19th century, especially in the 70s and 80s during the banishment of Ivan Mažuranić and the first years of the rule of Khuena Hedervary. In this final paper we will show how Gjalski described the relations of the most powerful parties of that time and presented himself as credible chronicler of a period of Croatian history.
