Abstract
U ovom radu nastoji se upoznati čitatelje sa okolnostima i klasično liberalnom filozofijom koje su dovele do formiranja Sjedinjenih Američkih Država i političkog sustava SAD-a. U prvom dijelu prikazuje se povijesni razvoj SAD-a, od prvih kolonija, pa sve do uvjeta i razloga za revoluciju i Deklaraciju nezavisnosti 1776. Potom se obrađuje osoba Johna Lockea i njegova filozofija prirodnog stanja, prirodnih prava poput života, slobode i vlasništva, društvenog ugovora, razdiobe vlasti i prava na pobunu protiv tiranina. Na kraju drugoga dijela, prikazuje se politička aktivnost Thomasa Jeffersona, autora Deklaracije, te ju se što više povezuje sa filozofijom Johna Lockea, kao svojim izvorom. U trećem dijelu se obrađuje politička filozofija Charlesa Montesquieua i njegovi tipovi vlasti te razdioba vlasti. Na kraju se obrađuje James Madison kao jedan od tvoraca američkog ustava i čije se djelo povezuje sa Montesquievim idejama. Kroz cijeli rad je naglasak stavljen na slobodu pojedinca, bilo osobne, bilo ekonomske te ograničena moć vlade, kao najbolja obrana protiv neslobodnih društava.
Abstract (english)
This paper attempts to familiarize readers with circumstances and classical liberal philosophy which brought upon the formation of the United States of America and its political system. In the first part, the historical development of the US, from the first colonies, to the conditions and reasons for the revolution and the Declaration of independence 1776. is highlighted. The next part focuses on John Locke and his philosophy of state of nature, natural rights such as life, liberty and property, social contract, separation of government and a right for rebellion against the tyrant. At the end of the second part, the political work of Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration, is shown, and is connected with the philosophy of John Locke, as its source. In the third part, the philosophy of Charles Montesquieu and his types of government and the system of checks and balances are explained. At the end of the paper, work of James Madison, one of the makers of the constitution is shown in the light of Montesquieu's ideas. Throughout the whole paper, emphasis is upon freedom of the individual, be it personal or economic freedom and limited power of government, as a best defence against unfree societies.
