History
Abstract
Sinjska alka tradicionalno je viteško nadmetanje koje se odrţava od godine 1715. u spomen na slavnu pobjedu nad Osmanlijama. U alkarskom nadmetanju natjecatelji na konjima kopljem gaĊaju metalni kolut (alku) koji je ovješen iznad trkališta. Alkar mora biti roĊen u Cetinskoj krajini i prije svega, mora biti ĉastan i pošten ĉovjek. Ovo jedinstveno nadmetanje pod zaštitom je UNESCO-a kao svjetska nematerijalna baština. U 20. stoljeću grad Sinj bio je u sastavu više razliĉitih drţavnih zajednica što je znaĉilo da se Sinjska alka mora prilagoĊavati aktualnom drţavnom sustavu. Bez potpore politiĉkih struktura i pokroviteljstva drţavnih vladara, Alka se zasigurno ne bi odrţavala kroz povijest sve do današnjih dana. Svrha ovoga rada je predstaviti tek dijelić prošlosti, stotinu godina prošloga stoljeća, Alku i okolnosti u kojima se Alka našla.
Abstract (english)
Alka of Sinj is traditional knights’ tournament that has been played since 1715 to commemorate the glorious victory over the Ottomans. In the Alka Tournament competitors on horseback, using a lance, target a metal ring (the alka) which is hung above the running course. The Alkar has to be born in Cetinska Krajina Region and above all, he has to be honourable and honest man. This unique tournament under protection of UNESCO as world intangible heritage. In the 20th century the town of Sinj has been under several different statecommunities which meant that Alka of Sinj had to conform with the current government. Without support of the political structure and the patronage of government rulers, Alka certainly wouldn’t be held throughout the history and to the present day. The purpose of this paper is to present only a fraction of the past, one hundred years of the last century, Alka and the circumstances in which Alka found herself.
