The purpose of this paper is to theoretically present relevant knowledge about hollistic child development and development of competencies as expected and desired outcomes of the educational process. Child is a whole being whose development flows togeher and requires a hollistic approach that will ensure it's optimal development. Parents and educators are the child's first model of behaviour from which he learns, but the child is a subject of personal development and has the right to active participation and autonomy. In order for a child to be able to maximize their potential, it is important that adults create stimulating conditions for the environment that will fulfill the child's needs and enable his quality development. They should be a quality example and provide support and positive feedback in order for the child to develop a positive image of himself and other competencies. Acquisition of competencies is necessary for the child's functioning in the future because a competent individual means more successful coping with life challenges. This is also the goal of the educational process of parents and educators - the child's well-being and building into a confident, capable and happy person who will be ready to respond to the challenges of modern life. Achieving a quality partnership is the key to achieving the hollistic development of the child and happy upbringing in the community with adults.
