Parenting can be described as the equal responsibility of mothers and fathers for the upbringing and care of the child. Throughout history, the fundamental role of fathers has been to provide material goods for a comfortable life, while emotional rapprochement with family and children has been considered solely the mother’s role. Today's lifestyle and higher employment of mothers in the labor market have contributed to greater involvement of fathers in family life, and the changes caused by greater involvement of fathers in the upbringing and education of their children are explained by the paradigm of new fatherhood. The contemporary view of the new role of the father emphasizes the benefits of the father’s active involvement in the development of his children. It depends on how individual has accepted his new role and on the way his social environment supports his new role. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the extent to which and in which areas fathers are involved in the upbringing and education of their children. The number of fathers in the research was 99, and the results showed that fathers from larger cities spend more time actively with children in activities that are appropriate for children, the second hypothesis showed that parents who spend more active time with their children and live in bigger places have a greater need for knowledge and information, and the third hypothesis showed that fathers who spend more time with their children and live in places were there is more than 20,000 inhabitants, are more actively involved in the upbringing of their children, while there was no significant association of different educations with engagement in different areas of development. Based on the obtained results, it is possible to conclude that fathers accept their new role and are open to further learning about parenting.
