The progress of society and the aspiration to modernity leave their mark on the school system. In education, it is necessary to track the progress and changes in order to adapt programs that should meet the challenge of the time and prepare future generations for life in such world. One of the key roles in adapting and implementing changes belongs to the school pedagogue. In practice, they face the inclination to form a modern school, the need to implement prevention programs, work on developing the school's social culture, establishing the school's connection with the rest of society, and including schools in projects and cooperation with the European Union. All these changes represent challenges for future pedagogues, and require work on personal development and guidance of all participants who are part of the educational process. The development of modern school has proven to be a complex developmental change that includes several components of school functioning, while the increasing emphasis is placed on the formation and implementation of prevention programs, as well as work on self-evaluation and encouraging pupils to take an active attitude towards their own development and participation with the aim of developing positive social culture of the school. However, additional efforts are needed in the area of strengthening the role and support of pedagogues to initiate the implementation of changes, achieving cooperation in the community, and involvement in the projects from which the school can have multiple benefits.
