Abstract
U ovome radu govorit će se o članovima porodice mačaka (domaća mačka, lav, tigar, pantera, leopard i fantastične zvijeri kojima je dio tijela lavljolik, a među njima su grifon, mermekolion i mantikor) i njihovim prikazima u umjetnosti kasnog srednjeg vijeka i ranog novog vijeka. Isto tako, analizirat će se starocivilizacijski i antički utjecaj na prikazivanje porodice mačaka u kasnom srednjem vijeku i ranom novom vijeku. Govorit će se o simbolici koja se pripisivala svakoj pojedinoj vrsti i povijesnim osobama koje su ih opisivale te kako je to utjecalo na likovne prikaze. Obratit će se pozornost na prikazivanje članova porodice mačaka u bestijarijima kasnog srednjeg vijeka te utjecaj antičkih pisaca (Plinije Stariji, Lucan) i kršćanskih naučitelja (Sv. Izdor Seviljski), ali i na njihovo prikazivanje na početku novog vijeka.
Abstract (english)
In this paper members of the family Felidae (domestic cat, lion, tiger, panther, leopard and fantastic beasts including the griffin, ant - lion and manticore) and their depictions in late medieval and early modern art will be discussed upon. Likewise, an ancient civilizational and classical influence on the depiction of the family Felidae in the late Middle Ages and early modern period will be analyzed. The symbolism attributed to each individual member and the historical figures who described them will be discussed, as well as how it affected visual representations. Attention will be given to the depiction of family members in bestiaries of the late Middle Ages and how their creation was influenced by ancient writers (Pliny the Elder, Lucan) and Christian teachers (St. Isidore of Seville), but also their portrayal at the beginning of the modern period.
