Different authors indicate that a rise in popularity of online video games is caused by a return to social forms of games, unlike the past social forms of games. A player of online games, ulike players of older kind of games doesn't only have an option to interact with other players he or she has the opportunity to meet, modern online games allow for a new kind of social contacts. One of the effects of online games that is of a special interest to sociology is the means that players have of creating a social network. Logevity of online games is directly connected to social networks of players that develop within a certein video game. Time that players spend playing a video game and the intesity of comunication often bring about the creation of virtual communities. This research is focused on youth population of Split and its souranding areas and the experiance of this population in playing online videogames. The goal of this research was to determin patterns of behavior in young players of online video games and to asses show informed are they about the harmful side effects of playing online video games. Methods used were qualitative visual analysis of the six most popular video games: Fortnite, Destiny 2, Red Dead Redemption Online, DOTA, Age of Magic and Fifa 20 and semistructured iterview conducted on a sample of twelve online gamers. The results of this research cofirm previous claims that the gamer population is much wider and older and that players continue to play video games long after their childhoods. The claim that wemen make up a greater portion of the gamer population was cofirmed. No significent difference in genre preference was noticed between the sexes. Participants prefered the games that held a certain social value, players played the video games their friends played. For the participents video games hold a certain social component, all of the participents were members of certain groups of video game players.
