This paper, titled The construction and development of Split 3 as an example of socialist architecture consists of an array of chapters that show all the periods of development of Split 3.Initial chapters are dedicated to the main characteristics of socialist architecture in the context of Yugoslavia, Croatia and the city of Split. It tells us about particular periods of socialist architecture, how the experts divide it and some of the most famous buildings of the period are mentioned. The period that preceeded the construction of Split 3 is the period of the housing shortage that is further elaborated in a separate chapter where we will explore how it came to the shortage and what ideas the experts had to solve the shortage. One of the proposed solutions was The Experiment 57 (E57) by an architect called Vuko Bombardeli, who tried to solve the housing shortage. There is also a summary of constructional activity in Split from the end of World War II up until the 1990's where some of the most important buildings of the period are named. After that, we will take a look at the periods of construction of Split from 1944 to 1990 and we will mention seven periods with each given its importance because each one of them serves as a foundation for the construction of Split 3. The sixth chapter is dedicated to the architectural applications for the work in Split and the author Darovan Tušek will show us the reviewed applications concerning Split 3, their proposed course and realisation. The idea of a new city block will be highlighted, as well as the authors and concepts where we follow from the start the evolution of the idea and the construction process. The characteristics of Split 3 are showed there and the construction contractors are named. The eighth chapter concerns with the streets and objects inside Split 3, their authors and their specifics. The final part of the paper is reserved for the retrospective of Split 3 project, particularly about the advantages and disadvantages of the block, its legacy and importance. 96 The final chapter is about the research of digital archives of the daily newspapers Slobodna Dalmacija, the period of the archives that was researched is dating from 1968 to 1976.
