Abstract
This thesis analyses verbal humour in the sitcom The Nanny. It focuses on the use of Yiddish words and social stratification. The purpose of the thesis is to show that humour facilitates discussing topics such as ethnicity, class, and religion. Yiddish words in humorous situations were analysed to show how they bring closer two families of different religions and ethnicities. Furthermore, humorous situations between the upper class and working-class characters were analysed to show how humour brings them together. Analysing humour in sitcoms proves to be useful for more than just the study of humour.
Abstract (english)
Ovaj diplomski rad analizira verbalni humor u sitcomu Dadilja. Usredotočuje se na korištenje jidiš riječi i društvene stratifikacije. Svrha ovog rada je pokazati kako humor olakšava raspravu tema kao što su etnička pripadnost, društvene klase i vjera. Analizirane su jidiš riječi u humorističnim situacijama kako bi pokazala da one zbliţavaju dvije obitelji različite vjere i klase. Nadalje, humoristične situacije izmeĎu likova višeg sloja i radničkog sloja analizirane su kako bi pokazala da ih humor zbliţava. Analiziranje humora pokazalo se korisnim ne samo za proučavanje humora.
