Abstract
L’intensificazione rappresenta un fenomeno linguistico universalmente presente nel linguaggio umano, particolarmente quello quotidiano. Essa si ottiene usando diversi strumenti e strategie linguistiche. Anche se tutte le parti del discorso possono essere intensificate, sono proprio gli aggettivi le parole che si intensificano in maniera più naturale con una vasta gamma di strategie di intensificazione. Le strategie di intensificazione degli aggettivi analizzate in questo lavoro sono: strategie morfologiche (prefissazione, suffissazione), strategie sintattiche (modificazione, reduplicazione) e una strategia semantica (locuzione comparativa). Si elencano molti esempi degli aggettivi italiani intensificati insieme ai loro equivalenti inglesi. Si cerca di dimostrare la differenza tra gli equivalenti trovati nelle fonti lessicografiche tradizionali e quelli ricavati dal Glosbe, il dizionario italiano-inglese online che offre equivalenti pubblicati dai traduttori di tutto il mondo. Lo scopo principale è di fare un’analisi contrastiva del processo dell’intensificazione degli aggettivi nella lingua italiana e quella inglese e di spiegare l’importanza della prassi di traduzione.
Abstract (english)
Intensification represents a linguistic phenomenon universally present in human language, particularly the everyday one. It is achieved by using different linguistic tools and strategies. While all parts of speech can be intensified, adjectives are the words that are most naturally intensified displaying a wide range of intensification strategies. The adjective intensification strategies analyzed in this work are: morphological strategies (prefixation, suffixation), syntactic strategies (modification, reduplication) and a semantic strategy (prototypical comparison). Many examples of the intensified Italian adjectives are listed together with their English equivalents. We try to demonstrate the difference between the equivalents found in traditional lexicographic sources and those obtained from Glosbe, the online Italian-English dictionary that offers equivalents published by translators around the world. The main purpose is to make a contrastive analysis of the process of intensification of adjectives in the Italian and English languages and to explain the importance of the translation practice.
