History
Abstract
Političke stranke u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama čine okosnicu njenog političkog sustava. Iako pri stvaranju republike nisu bile predviđene, njihov nastanak bio je neizbježan zbog neslaganja oko smjera vođenja države. Stranke predstavljaju interese svojih birača u legislativnom ogranku vlasti, predsjednički kandidati najčešće su nominirani od strane svojih stranaka, a suci na Vrhovnom sudu također dolaze na svoje pozicije na temelju stranačkih preporuka. Danas su dvije najdominantnije stranke Republikanska i Demokratska stranka, ali postoje i mnoge druge stranke koje se trude utjecati na politički diskurs unutar SAD-a. Cilj ovog rada je prikazati kako su se političke stranke u SAD-u razvijale i kako su se nosili sa problemima koji su došli pred njih.
Abstract (english)
Political parties in the United States form the backbone of its political system. Although they were not foreseen when the republic was created, their emergence was inevitable due to disagreements about the direction of the state. Parties represent the interests of their constituents in the legislative branch of government, presidential candidates are most often nominated by their parties, and Supreme Court judges also take up their positions based on party recommendations. Today, the two most dominant parties are the Republican and Democratic parties, but there are also many other parties that try to influence the political discourse within the US. The aim of this paper is to show how political parties in the USA developed and how they dealt with the problems that came before them.
