This master thesis is an ethnographic research of Erasmus student mobility program. It is a result of field research conducted in the city of Wroclaw in Poland, which combines structured interviewing and participant observation as data collection methods. The principal aim was to present Erasmus student exchange through researcher’s own experiences and that of the interviewed Erasmus students. The results show that the most frequentative reason for taking part in Erasmus exchange programme is a desire to live abroad. For most Erasmus students, life in Wroclaw was their first experience with life outside of their own country and the majority of respondents are considering living abroad in the future. The results of this thesis show that for the vast majority of interviewed students Poland was the first choice when selecting the country and the university for their Erasmus experience. Furthermore, Erasmus students predominantly attended the Polish language courses. However, daily they made use of the English language and believe that knowledge of the Polish language is unnecessary to live in Poland as an Erasmus student. All Erasmus students socialise with other Erasmus students and approximately half of them keep in touch with local students. As the most important experiences from their exchange, respondents list meeting new people, discovering new cultures and improving knowledge of the English language.
