The importance of mathematics in society developement and its role in education of individuals is undeniable. Since mathematics is the foundation of scientific and technological progress, mathematical education is necessary for the development of a contemporary man. Numerous studies have shown that quality mathematical education significantly contributes to the person in the work and life environment. The rapid development of science, technology and information technology requires constant exchange of ideas and information. This can only be achieved by communication. Precisely for this reason, communication in modern math education is recognized as one of the skills that significantly contributes to the quality of mathematical knowledge and is considered as one of the fundamental elements of mathematics and mathematics education. Communication skills are essential for sharing, spreading, and further developing of mathematical knowledge. With this research, we wanted to show how well the communication skills of elementary school pupils in math teaching were developed. The study was attended by 103 students of the fourth grade of the two elementary schools in Makarska. The results show that most students are poorly governed by mathematical terms and have difficulties in expressing their mathematical thinking.
