The media is becoming an extremely strong factor in the socialisation of children and youth and it tends to strongly affect their social behaviours. These kind of potential effects of the media in the contemporary society begin from the earliest lifetime of the individual within the family. Therefore, the way the parents use certain media will deffinitely affect their children, whether in a positive or a negative way. At the same time the role of parents as regulators of media use and use of media contents is becoming more significant, at least during the process of primary socialisation, and even later. Therefore, the thesis deals with the study of attitudes and opinions of parents of primary school children about the internet's role in their and their children's lives. We were interested in competences which parents and children have, related to the internet use and the activities of parents and children in their free time. As the most adequate method, we chose a survey and for the research purpose we made a questionnaire which consisted of 31 questions. The answers were inserted into the protocole. The research results have shown that both children and parents use internet daily and that they are equally skilled. They believe that in their case none of the aspects arised from exaggerated use of internet are present and that their children did not have bigger unpleasant experiences on the internet. Also, the parents talk to their children about contents they search and they are familiar with them. Besides that, the examinees consider the communication between them and their children very open. All examinees and a smaller number of children who also use social networks own a mobile phone. Furthermore, the results have shown that the children spend most of their time with friends and family, and at the same time they spend time with their parents in different ways.
