Eating disorders are manifested by too high intake of food (bulimia nervosa) to the absolute rejection of food intake (anorexia nervosa). These disorders are often a sign of some of the other problems that arise among young women, especially adolescents. The girls are often (not) aware of the looks of their body and body weight and deliberately invest enormous effort to influence their shape, often through very sharp measures. Such attitudes and behaviors are more and more common today, usually referred to as the cult of skinnyness. There is a clear link between the cult of a skinny body, which is generally accepted, and the spread of eating disorders. Living in a society that glorifies thinnes as the most important value, while the thickness is considered abnormal and distracting, certainly increases the risk of the appearance of eating disorders. The subject of research is bodily practices and eating disorders among young women. The research was conducted by qualitative method of semi-structured interviews on a targeted (exploratory) sample of young women with eating disorders in the area of Split. The results show that the disorders have occurred in puberty, and the reasons are mostly dissatisfaction with their own physical appearance. The ideal physical appearance, according to women, is considered to be a natural bodily appearance that is not subjected to aesthetic interventions, which is different from the media representations of the ideal bodily appearance that is unrealistic. They say that the media mostly convey images and about how an „ideal“ body should look, so sociocultural factors are shown ase one of the main „trigger“ i eating disorders. In addition to these, it is important to highlight individual, group and collective factors. Despite long-lasting struggles and serious repercussions, interlocutors succeeded, with the help of the closest, defeate the struggle with the disorders.
