This paper presents the views of citizens to cultural diversity and the life of minorities in the Split area produced in the attitudes towards multiculturalism , prejudice, human rights and views on the impact of the European Union on cultural identity to the Member States and the national minoritie. The theoretical part of the work is completed with the results of empirical research . The results show that the majority of the population considers democracy necessary for the functioning of society as well as Croatia as a cultural and tolerant society. They ethnic minority members of their society that has the right to education and the fostering of their own culture with the introduction and respect of the majority culture. The complexity of the relations between minorities and the majority are trying to solve in different ways. State institutions should enable persons belonging to national minorities to freely express particularities and characteristics of the community in otherwise multiethnic society , and the right to preserve and protect their identity. It is therefore necessary to encourage respect for the ethnic, religious, linguistic and any other form of identity of an individual belonging to a national minority, but also create a safe environment in which the individual is free to express their identity. Croatia is a multicultural country in the formal legal protection of their minorities more than meets all the standards set by international legal instruments. Under the influence of globalization processes and international migration society develops in the direction of acceptance of cultural diversity and the fight for equality of every social group.
