The aim of this paper is to present the topic of problems in the behavior of early and preschool children with special emphasis on the expressive techniques used in working with them. The first part of the paper focuses on behavioral problems, gives a definition of the term itself and presents some examples of the most common behavioral problems in preschool children, such as children's resistance, disobedience, anger, aggression and destructiveness, as well as problems with attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. It also emphasizes the influence of parents and families on the psychological and social development of children through the concept of risk and protective factors. In the following, the paper provides an insight into the model of expressive approaches, which is widely used, and describes expressive techniques and their application in preschool children who manifest behavioral problems. The paper describes the key terms of expressive therapy, its historical development and theoretical bases and principles. Art therapy is a discipline based on art and psychology and helps release creative energy and thus contributes to mental health. The paper provides an overview of various expressive media that are used in art therapy approaches, but also describes in detail the development of artistic expression in children, describes the process of creation of children's drawings and the important role of color, provides an insight into music therapy and its influence on the individual, discusses the therapeutic functions of dance and dramatic and stage expressions. It deals with literary expression, bibliotherapy, and emphasizes children's play as the most adequate means of influencing the overall development of a child. The goal of expressive approaches and techniques is not to create a work of art, but to use expressive techniques as a means of communication with the child, insight into their inner world, and directing possible behavioral problems into adequate forms of behavior.
