Maria Montessori's ideas of education were far ahead of their time and today they agree with ideas that modern school are striving for. Because od that students and teachers should be fimiliar with the theaching methods of Montessori education programs and the material they have designed. This graduate thesis talks about the basics of Montessori pedagogy, materials and exercises from math that can be used in classroom teaching. The biography of Maria Montessori was presented so as the emergence of her pedagogy that is current today. The basic didactic principles of Montessori pedagogy were explained: freedom and discipline, absorbing mind, sensitive periods, and polarization of attention and normalization. The most important pedagogical principles of Montessori pedagogy were: prepared environment, prepared teacher, error control and three-step principle. The period of development until the age of 18 is also described in this thesis and the work of the Montessori private school in Zagreb as well. Furthermore, the paper explains materials and exercises that are divided into groups: materials for everyday exercise, sensitivity development materials, materials for language, cosmic education materials and mathematics materials. Mathematics is known as the one of the hardest subjects in education. From math teacher, therefore, it requires greater engagement and motivation for approaching students. Therefore, the aim of this graduate thesis is to bring teachers and students closer to the ideas of the alternative school of Marie Montessori which could help them in the teaching process and the planning of math teaching. The materials for mathematics is further explained and the method of working with the Montessori method is presented. There are examples of math class of teaching new lessons and example of math class of repeating lesson stating the ways in which Montessori materials can be used in teaching.
