The topic of this graduate thesis is the remains of the old Slavic faith in the art of the early Middle Ages on the Adriatic coast. In order to analyze the influence of the Old Slavic faith, it is necessary to first deal with the process of migration of the Slavs to the Roman Dalmatian area, the gradual process of their Christianization, their reconstructed belief system, the main deities that they worshiped and the cycle of the year. Apart from the folk tradition, Slavic beliefs are still little known. It was established that there are Christian substitutes for most of the important Slavic deities, who have taken their places in the folk tradition but also in space. Also, a significant discovery are the sacred triangles, certain points on the land (sacred places, churches, mountains) which, joined in three, in certain places, form a proper three-nave structure in space that can be associated with reconstructed Slavic myths. Furthermore, Slavic beliefs left a large mark in the toponymy, which is why the large part of this work deals with the toponymy. Numerous mountains, rivers and villages carry the names of Slavic deities and give a glimpse of the former sacred places of the pagan Slavs, which today are usually churches dedicated to Christian saints. Regarding the art itself that was created under the influence of the old Slavic faith, only a few artifacts from the early Middle Ages were found on the Adriatic coast, most likely from the period when Christianity and the Old faith were intertwined in the lives of people. Old Slavic faith is still alive today through the Neo-Pagan religious organization called rodnovjerje.
