This paper exhibits the sociological, empirical research on the significance that youth in Split assignes to clothing as a guideline of defining other people. The paper, also, outlines the influence clothing has on expressing one's identity, how society affects clothing and the effect of personal style on the evaluation of others. Furthermore, it outlines if clothes is used as a meaning of expressing one's attitude. The research was enforced in the city of Split in year 2015. The research-pattern was created by nineteen, randomly selected, young people. The used research-methods were observation and half-structural interview. The respondents assess other people on the basis of their clothes, because it shows the style and identity of those people. However, personality is more important for them when it comes to the firts impression. When it comes to chosing their own clothes, the examinees give importance to their personal preference, but they like to hear both critique and praise from the people whose opinion they appreciate. Clothing does not have to express appurtenance to a specific social class. According to the opinion of the examinees, what is expensive is not also pretty, but is usually of better quality. The respondents do not choose friends based on their clothes. They hang out with people who have different clothing styles, but those respondents that do not do that believe that they do not have common interests with people of different clothing styles.
